Picture-CDs and Picture-DVDs at picture-cd.com use uncompressed TIFF (TIF) formatted files as opposed to the Kodak Picture CD product, which uses the JPEG file format. A typical color scan of 35 mm film, 1947 x 1296 pixels and 16.7 million colors, will produce a 7.2 MB picture file.

- TIFF/TIF is a cross-platform standard developed by Aldus in 1986 for image files. It can describe grayscale and full color image data in several different color spaces. It was originally developed as a standard for scanners and photo-retouching programs. The main purpose of TIFF is to store and describe raster image data in a rich environment for many different applications.
